PRD MAIS comes to USA to play Groundup fest and record their Rittenhouse album, bringing Samba drums from Brazil.
2017
Miamibloco begins as informal hang teachings in friend’s backyards and parks around Miami on the new drums!
2018
Word gets around and we move the gatherings to a local capoeira studio to fit more friends, we meet sporadically when time allows.
2019
PRDmais performs at Groundup Music Festival.
Miamibloco becomes a signature workshop at GroundUp Music Fest.
COVID-19
2020
Pause all public activity and programs. lots of time to think about making a bigger impact in our community!
Summer: Bateria Saideira members travel to Rio de Janeiro to study percussion and experience Samba culture first hand in Samba schools and blocos as cultural exchange.
2021
In mid December we partner with Miami Beach Bandshell to host Bateria Saideira rehearsals & offer community workshops 2 x month.
2022
Spring: The Bandshell creates the Bandshell Labs and we become the first ever resident artists.
We host the first Miamibloco Saideira Social as our capstone, supported by the Rhythm Foundation on Memorial Day Monday.
Miamibloco incorporates as a cultural Not-for-profit organization
Fall: A full season of outreach , and workshop with Salgueiro mestres Gustavo & Guilherme Oliveira culminates in the 2nd Saideira Social held in December 12 2022.

2023
Spring: We self produce the 3rd Saideira Social, presenting “MoroccoBloco” featuring Samir Langus (cultural exchange artists) on
Memorial Day Monday.
We partner with Copperbridge Foundation and
host the first session of Bateria Academy in North Miami.
Our first time at the King Mango strut!
Fall: We partner with local brewery Magic 13, to host rehearsals, workshops and Roda de Samba nights.
“Beats & Belonging” community weekend is born in partnership with city of Hollywood.
We self-produce “Roots of Samba” a showcase of Bateria and Roda de samba styles all ages fundraiser party at Magic 13. December 30th to close the season.
We are awarded our first ever grant! (MD community Grant)
2024
Spring: Bateria Saideira performs opening the Legendary Montreux Jazz Fest Jam, inaugural Miami Edition.
Bateria Saideira performs at Arsht Center KNIGHT CONCERT HALL at: Art+Mind Day.
We self produced the 4th annual Saideira Social, presenting Alfredo Rodriguez, as surprise guest, and a myriad of
local talent. Cultural exchange artist: Bóka Reis
Miamibloco earns Best Of Miami: “Best Musical Act 2024” by The Miami New Times readers choice.
Miamibloco gets awarded our first “Developing Arts
in Neighborhoods” DAN grant to support Saideira Social production costs.
Fall: We did the inaugural TEDx MDC
Miamibloco parades at 3:05pm at History Miami CultureFest!
MiamiblocoKids program is awarded the Miami Foundation Catalyst Grant.
We headlined the King Mango Strut Parade with 100 strutters and our first carro de som!
2025
Recess: Between teaching seasons, Miamibloco offers all level percussion workshops to the Miami community.
Bateria Saideira performs community activations at City of Hollywood, FL,
GroundUpFest Family Dinner and EEEEEATSCON.
Spring: the 5th annual Saideira Social featured the Spirit of Carnaval across Miami, Rio de Janeiro, Puerto Rico, and Colombia with a sold out show! featuring Tato Marenco, and Salgueiro mestres de Bateria: Gustavo and Guilherme Oliveira with an 80 member strong Bateria furiosa.
2026
We dream that Miamibloco represents the Magic City as the heartbeat of Miami at the FIFA world cup 2026 !
