MIAMIBLOCo’s SAMBA DANCE PROGRAM: CORPO EM SOM
MICHELLE HÜBEL
Michelle is a professional dancer with training in ballet, jazz, hip hop, commercial, West African, Polynesian, and Afro-Brazilian dance. She is a lover of samba and of Brazilian music and culture, and has trained under Alex Coutinho, Tainah Damasceno, Kellyn Rosa, Carlinhos Salgueiro, Gustavo Siqueira, Rosangela Silvestre, Thays Busson, Dandha da Hora, and Kilve da Costa, among others. She has paraded and performed with groups including Amor do Samba and Bloco Ginga Brasil. Michelle is dedicated to honoring the richness and history of samba, while making its infectious music and dance accessible to all who seek to learn.
BRENDA CODONER
Brenda is a Guatemalan-American dancer who fell in love with samba back in 2010.
She started training at the United Dance Academy in Dallas, and then continued to learn at various studios around the country, including D.C, Chicago, LA and San Francisco.
She is part of the Poderosas do Samba community trained by Alex Coutinho, and has participated in Rio's annual carnaval since 2022.
She has been a musa for Lins Imperial and, musa for Em Cima da Hora, and passista for Parque do Acari and Em Cima da Hora.
She has also performed at countless festivals, private events and celebrations.
What to Expect: CORPO EM SOM SERIES [MARCH - MAY 2026]
Corpo em Som is more than a dance series: it’s a holistic learning container inspired by the way samba is studied and lived in Rio de Janeiro. Together, we’ll explore endurance, technique, and choreography while diving into the cultural roots, stories, and spirit behind samba no pé in and between classes, through DISCORD.
Some classes will feature live drums from Miamibloco’s Bateria Saideira, giving you the chance to embody movement through rhythm.
This is a shared journey of cultural connection, community energy, and joyful resistance.
Ages
Intergenerational from 13 and up. Dancers under 13 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
