We teach, perform, and live samba culture in tandem with the Afro-diasporic richness of Miami. This is where drums echo through the streets,
where generations move together, where strangers become community in real time.
We create spaces that feel alive, open, and communally ours. A place to learn, to play, to belong, and to carry the real spirit of Miami forward, to the literal beat of our drums.
To reflect a culture truthfully, we believe creativity and art must be valued above all else, defending and nurturing spaces to create art for the sake of our sense of humanity.
That independence matters. Even $10 a month helps us stay financially and creatively free, so we can keep creating on our terms as our understanding of Miami as locals continues to evolve.

wHO ARE WE & WHAT IS A BLOCO?
Miamibloco, established in 2017, is a percussion- led cultural movement inspired by Rio’s street blocos and Rio escola de samba, homegrown in/by Miami. We gather in public space to play, move, and take over through precise rhythm, and the joy of making art, always inviting everyone to join us.
This is music you step into. No experience needed. No stage between us. Just people learning, playing, and building human connection in real time.
Part street party, part music school, part social club. Miamibloco is a creative NPO organization where people of ages 12 years old and up learn someone’s name between drum breaks, remove titles, accolades and socio-economic backgrounds, to go from strangers to bandmates. Our music represents Miami, and the diaspora through the color of Samba drums. Together we turn public space into stage of a massive celebration of place and identity where the city feels truly connected.
Blocos are living, breathing intergenerational, cross-cultural street collectives made byeveryday people. Percussion, horns, and people moving as one organism. Sometimes spontaneous, sometimes highly rehearsed, always rooted in joy as a birthright. Blocos and Samba schools carry the voice of a neighborhood, a crew, a cause. Sound, color, movement, a collective identity all locked together. We are street theater, protest, and popular celebration at once, powered by community members and samba beats that build real IRL belonging.

OUR WHY: MORE THAN DRUMS
We created Miamibloco as a way to participate, protect and evolve our local living culture. To make space for loud expression, for joy, for voices and rhythms that deserve to be heard and felt. Because art is not decoration and culture is not a costume. Real culture is how communities define themselves, stay alive, and stay meaningful.
Samba culture shows us what that looks like. It is not just music, it is structure. Samba gives people access to learning, purpose, and life-long belonging through participation. Drumming, dancing, building, organizing. Anyone can step in, earn their place, and become part of something bigger through dedication to the collective.
The year builds toward Carnaval, which for us in Miamibloco is the annual Saideira Social and King Mango Strut. That process of endless practice is the social glue that gives rise to community. The final release is a party, is reciprocity in action, pride, joy, and collective identity exploding into the streets, carrying people forward together into what comes next until the cycle begins again.
Miamibloco exists to grow those roots here in Miami. To build our own traditions connected to something larger. To honor samba and drum cultures in their full depth as sound, culture, and community. Not stripped down, not repackaged, not aesthetic, but lived, respected, and kept authentic.
